Horizon Field
A landscape installation in the alpine mountains of Vorarlberg, Austria
August 2010 - April 2012
The Kunsthaus Bregenz, established by the British artist Antony Gormley (born 1950), is a unique project in the mountains of Vorarlberg. Horizon Field is the first art project of its kind and also the largest landscape installation in Austria, which can be seen in the mountains soon.
Horizon Field consists of 100 life-size casts of a human body made of solid cast iron, stretching over an area of 150 km2 and covering the municipalities Mellau, Schoppernau, Schröcken, Warth, Mittelberg, Lech, Klösterle and Dalaas. The masterpiece forms a horizontal line 2039 meters above sea level. This altitude has no specific contextual or metaphorical significance rather it is an easily accessible height, which is also displaced from everyday life.
